I LOVED the spa! From the massage to the food to the vibe to the staff, everything was so lovely. Definitely perfect for relaxing and spending some time with friends and family. We did the couples massage and it was so romantic, I would definitely recommend for couples looking for a date activity. We are definitely seeing you guys again soon!

We travelled from Welkom to Bloemfontein for my daughter’s 25th birthday and chose African Stone Day Spa for a special mother-and-daughter day. Overall, we had a lovely experience. The food was wonderful, the drinks were great, and most of the day felt relaxing and well thought out.
I do have a few suggestions that I think could make the experience even better.
After lunch, we waited about an hour for our next treatment. I also found the lunch setup slightly uncomfortable because guests in gowns and slippers are seated together with newly arrived guests who are still dressed and fresh for the day. I did wonder what incoming guests might think seeing everyone having lunch in robes. A little more privacy, or perhaps a separate dining area or division between arriving guests and guests already in treatment gowns, would make the experience feel more exclusive and comfortable.
During the foot treatment, one of the therapists was sneezing quite a bit and switched off the fan, which made the room rather warm and uncomfortable. I completely understand that people can feel under the weather unexpectedly, but perhaps in that situation a little more attention could be given to guest comfort and ventilation rather than the therapist's perhaps going home or asking someone to stand in for her.
The biggest disappointment for me was unfortunately our final treatment, which I had been looking forward to the most — the full-body hot stone massage. The therapist felt quite heavy-handed and rushed, and the treatment ended around 10 minutes early. During the massage, my hair was repeatedly pulled because pressure was applied over it with the palm of the hand, and my hair was not moved away properly during the neck and shoulder work. This caused pulling on loose strands and made parts of the treatment quite unpleasant.
This was unfortunate because it was the final treatment of an otherwise really enjoyable birthday spa day, and I had hoped it would end on the same high note as the rest of the experience.
That said, the setting is beautiful, the food and drinks were excellent, and we still enjoyed our day very much. I would recommend African Stone, but I do think a little more attention to privacy, timing between treatments, and consistency between therapists would make an already good experience even better.
